Storytelling beyond ordinary

Daisy Jones & The Six — so rock ’n roll, so edgy, so raw

Daisy Jones & The Six is a 1970s rock group created by author Taylor Jenkins Reid for her book, the same responsible for another great / greater work — The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. But while reading the book — labelled as fiction, I found myself googling the name of the band just to make sure. It must be a mistake! This is how authentic it felt! The band never played on a real stage, but it rocked my mind!

“I had absolutely no interest in being somebody else’s muse.
I am not a muse.
I am the somebody.
End of fucking story.”
― Taylor Jenkins Reid, Daisy Jones & The Six

The choice of narration is not that sexy, though. The book was written in interview transcripts and sometimes it made it very difficult to keep up with the storyline, the characters, and the emotions. At the same time, it proved to be quite an interesting method to reminiscing the past and diving into each character’s memory — same moment, different recollections. It just makes you think how different we are and how challenging real communication is. This is how careless words can cause so much harm and how the same story may have such different meanings.

It’s about the power of human relationships.

I felt part of their world.

I felt the 70’s vibes. Does it matter I was born a decade later? Well, I definitely felt some vibes! I felt the passion, the rise and fall, the whirlwind emotions. I almost felt part of the band. I was the eight-member nobody knew. Maybe that’s why I devoured it in a day just like fellow reader Reese Witherspoon! 🙂

I just felt the love. The sanctity of love — for music, for excellence. I also felt the pain — of being forced to choose, of resisting the urge to get high on drugs or other love, of losing someone or causing others pain and living with that pain for ever.

Ultimately, this is a story of love and love always comes with pain.

“It’s like some of us are chasing after our nightmares the way other people chase dreams.”
― Taylor Jenkins Reid, Daisy Jones & The Six

As a creative person and someone who loves music deeply, I just couldn’t remain unhinged by the tearing process of creation. Creating remarkable work — music or any other type of art, requires a diversified portfolio of raw emotions you must be willing to present forward. You’ve got to be ready to strip and remain a naked soul in front of everyone. And that’s when the magic happens! Oh, and those lyrics! I could just hear the music! Gritty emotions on the menu!

Music can dig, you know? It can take a shovel to your chest and just start digging until you hit something.”
― Taylor Jenkins Reid, Daisy Jones & The Six

It hit me. It hit me hard and I liked it. Rock’n roll, baby!
