For a marketing person, Super Bowl is a gold mine. I personally really don’t care about the championship game of the National Football League (NFL), but what I do care is the marketing game. Oh, and I am also curious about the artist performing the half-time show. And people seem to agree, as numbers show that the half-time show usually pulls in more viewers than the match itself. Usher will take the stage, roller-skating. Yeah, yeah, yeah!
Brands are all lined up, with their head in the game – pun intended 🙂 – after spending, what was most likely a scandalous amount of money on marketing. Big audience, big names, big budgets. The math is mathing! Unfortunately, if we are being truly honest, some are just a lazy display of celebrities promoting a product they have no connection with. Some are just for fun, so, there is no need to put a lot of thought into it. And some are really good. Smart good.
Looking forward to see what this edition brings us, and from all the teasers out there, people have been busy.
For now, I will share with you my favourites. My first one is already a meme within a meme probably, showcasing the Beckhams poking fun at…themselves, while promoting Uber Eats 🙂 Simple, fun, smart, recognizable. Why bother thinking of something new, and invent some scenario, when you have one at hand, and it’s so juicy, so popular already? This is what I call taking advantage of the momentum.
Another one is a #Suits reunion for E.L.F. BEAUTY. I like it, but not as much as I would have wanted to like it. Do you know what I mean? The second I realized what was happening, my expectations sky rocketed. And then, hit the ground with a bang.
They recreated a scene specific to the series, kept Louis Litt the same – thank God, he is delicious – but somehow massacred the other characters. Donna is a bit off, and Jessica is so out of character that I cringe when I see her smiling and acting kind of stupid over makeup. For me personally, as someone who has seen the series, I simply cannot buy it. But, all in all, a good one. They also made a good call, using to their advantage the fresh renewed notoriety the Suits series has gained. 👍
My idea of a good ad? Do your research, gain some insight and be relevant. Everything that comes after – all the creative buzz, is just the cherry on top.
