From wish lists to wrapping paper: the emotional roller-coaster of a gift.

December 1st: I’m still just an idea floating around in your mind. You’ve been googling “best gifts for dads” for the third time today and still have no clue what I’ll be. Socks keep popping up in your search results… please don’t let me be socks!
December 10th: It’s official—you went with a “Dad Jokes” book. Bold choice. I’m not sure if this is a gift for him or a punishment for everyone else. But hey, great for you, thinking outside the box!

December 15th: Uh-oh, I see what’s happening. You panicked and bought a practical gift—a pair of gloves. Sure, they’ll keep Dad warm, but can they make him the life of the party? I don’t think so. Now it’s a showdown: me, the hilarious “Dad Jokes” book, versus those glorified gloves. It’s not even snowing! I’m not sure if his pockets will appreciate the competition from these gloves.

December 20th: It’s official—you couldn’t decide between the gloves and the “Dad Jokes” book. So, you went with both. Now I’m stuck in the awkward position of being the backup gift, while the gloves have the practicality advantage. But can they make Dad laugh until he cries? I don’t think so. This is a showdown, and I’m ready to win. Let’s see if those gloves can compete with my punchlines.
December 22nd: You wrapped me today in paper so glittery it’s practically blinding. Nice touch, but the tape job? A disaster. My corners are already poking through like I’m trying to escape. Honestly, I am trying to escape those gloves! Trying to wrap me while juggling those big, fluffy things was like using boxing gloves to fold a napkin. Amateur work!
December 25th, 8am: Here I am under the tree! The lights are beautiful, the atmosphere is magical, but let’s be real—I look like I traveled with Santa and ran down the chimney. Will your dad like me? Or will I end up as a last-minute re-gift for one of his co-workers, with the gift tag still on?
December 25th, 9am: It’s happening—your dad’s opening me. He smiles and says, “Oh, nice, I love telling jokes!” Gloves? Pfff. He’ll probably use me more than those, unless he’s planning on telling jokes with his hands. Those will probably end up in the drawer, only brought out when he’s too cold to reach for the remote.
After all, it’s the thought that counts, right? Christmas is a reminder that it’s not about the perfect gift, but about the love and intention behind it. Whether it’s a pair of gloves or a cheesy “Dad Jokes” book, it’s the effort, the heart, and the genuine care that matter most. In a world that often feels rushed and stressful, let’s use this season to be a little nicer, a little kinder, and to remember that the best gifts are the ones that come from a good place—no wrapping paper required.
